Share

In 1987 a PHD student from University of Michigan namely THOMAS KNOLL start writing a program on his Macintosh Plus to display grayscale image into a monochrome format, this program was called as DISPLAY. He caught the attention of his brother John Knoll who was the employee of an Industrial Light & Magic, John recommended his brother Thomas to turn this Display program into full fledged image editing program. The father of Photoshop Thomas took approximately six month break from his studies in 1988 to collaborate with his brother on this program which had been renamed as ImagePro. After a year Thomas renamed ImagePro As PHOTOSHOP. Thomas deal with a scammer manufacturer company Barneyscan to distribute copies of Photoshop with a slide scanner to promote Photoshop.

During this process, Thomas`s brother John traveled to Silicon valley and gave a detailed demonstration of Photoshop to the engineers of Apple and Russell Brown (art director at Adobe). Both were impressed and decided to purchase the license to distribute Photoshop in September 1988. Photoshop 1.0 was released in 1990 for Macintosh exclusively.
